Precyse Compliance Alert!
The Impact of the Delay in the Implementation Date of Meaningful Use 2 On November 30, 2011, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it would extend the incentive program deadlines for Meaningful Use Stage 2 in order to encourage the 2011 early adopters. HHS now intends to allow doctors and hospitals to adopt health IT this year, without meeting the new standards until 2014.
HHS OFFICE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS TO BEGIN HIPAA PRIVACY AUDITS HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is piloting a program to perform up to 150 audits during November 2011 and conclude by December 2012.

White Papers
Coding A Day in the Life of ICD-10; How ICD-10 Impacts Hospitals & Health Systems Facility-wide Learn how to recognize the far-reaching impact of ICD-10 in your facility, identify the ICD-10 learning needs of the various departments, how to avoid increased denial rates, how to avoid an increase in Discharged Not Final Billed (DNFB) and how to avoid a decrease in productivity.
ICD-10 Transition Made Easier with Natural Language Comprehension™-Driven Coding Tools We are in the midst of one of the most challenging and exciting times in the history of healthcare. At every turn there are words and phrases striking fear and tribulation among healthcare providers: healthcare reform, meaningful use, RAC, ICD-10, accountable care, CDI, pay for performance, compliance…the list goes on and on. And while the pros and cons of all of these issues are being hotly debated, one thing is for certain: Change is coming. Read this white paper to learn more about and understand the science behind Natural Language Comprehension (NLC), learn how NLC collaborative workflow improves coding quality and productivity, recognize why this technology is a necessity in the EHR toolkit, identify the benefits of NLC in the HIM department, and hear provider insights on how NLC is being used to accelerate Meaningful Use and ICD-10 preparations.
The Key for Success in Preparing for ICD-10 Coding By now, most healthcare providers know that effective October 1, 2013, Health and Human Services (HHS) will implement a new coding system (ICD-10-CM) to record the presence of diagnoses for various episodes of patient
care and a new coding system (ICD-10-PCS) to record the presence of procedures for acute care inpatients. Most providers mistakenly believe that the key to accurate assignment of these codes will be driven exclusively by
training the coders. Having studied this a great deal, however, we feel that it will be equally critical for physicians to dramatically improve their documentation practices, which will in turn lead to appropriate code selection and full reimbursement.
ICD-10-CM and Leadership The Director of Health Information Management is a title that is used to identify the person in 'charge' of a complex and challenging department which is associated with the management, care and storage of medical records. We all know there is a lot more to it than records. We are managing our departments in an era of change and every function, task and process that we organize and control is on a fast track to chaos. We all understand that we are not in control of the changes coming. So, how do ensure the changes are made on time and that they become a part of business as usual, done correctly, in compliance, and benefit the populations we serve?
Implementing ICD-10How much will it cost? ICD-10 will provide the U.S. health care system with many benefits, including improved public health surveillance and treatment and research data, as well as the means to refine payment systems and pay-for-performance, identify fraud and abuse, and ways to improve health care quality.
Is Anatomy and Physiology Changing? By now, we have all heard that coders will need to brush up on anatomy and physiology before the implementation of ICD-10-CM/PCS, but why? It's not like the anatomy and physiology of the human body are changing with the switch to ICD-10.
Why We Love ICD-10-CM and so will you! Close your eyes and imagine a coding classification system created for coders instead of statisticians and developed with the help of people who actually use the codes! Well, even if you can't envision it, it will become a reality on October 1, 2013the compliance date for ICD-10-CM. ICD-10-CM, including the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, will replace the ICD-9-CM diagnosis code set for diagnosis reporting.
